It didn't work. What do we do now?

A failed cycle hurts, and it is also information. Read what it shows before you decide on the next step, or on stopping.

Questions couples ask after.

Still unsure? Ask us on WhatsApp — a real person replies.

How soon can we try IVF again after a failed cycle?

It depends on what the cycle showed and whether you have frozen embryos, so review it with your doctor soon rather than leaving it for months. In Dr Vani Sundarapandian's experience, "Couples wait too long to resume treatment after a failed cycle."

When should we stop IVF?

Stop when the evidence says another cycle with your own eggs or sperm is very unlikely to work, or when it is unsafe. Dr Vani Sundarapandian's criteria: "Extremely low reserve over 40, repeatedly poor eggs, failed fertilisation, consistently poor embryos, repeated embryo arrest, no viable sperm. We also do not proceed where pregnancy poses a serious risk to the woman's life or where ART law does not permit it."

Should we get a second opinion after a failed IVF?

Yes, if you are unsure why it failed or what to change. A second opinion reads your whole file and says what it shows; sometimes the answer is to stay with your clinic.

Is it normal to feel this low after a failed cycle?

Yes. Grief after a failed cycle is common and real, and talking to us can help. If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, call Tele-MANAS on 14416 (free, confidential, 24 hours, in Tamil and English), or call 108 or go to the nearest emergency department.

Bring us the file. We'll tell you what it shows.

Tell us what happened in your cycle. A real person from our team replies on WhatsApp during clinic hours (Mon to Sat, 9am to 5pm. Sunday closed.), and we'll say plainly what a review can and can't answer.
