SUCCESS RATES

A success rate is only as honest as what it counts.

Every couple asks for the number. Most clinic numbers leave out the one thing you need: who was counted.

We don't publish a headline success rate yet. When we do, we'll show exactly what we counted, by age, including the cycles that didn't work. Until then, here is how to read anyone's number, including ours.

Why we don't publish a headline number yet.

A single clinic-wide percentage reflects which couples a clinic treats (their ages, their diagnoses, the cycles it declines) far more than the quality of its care. A centre that treats only straightforward cases will always report a higher figure. So we will publish only when the method is fixed, the numbers are counted the same way every year, and a lawyer has cleared the page. An old headline figure on our previous website did not meet that standard, so we have removed it.

Five ways a success rate can mislead.

None of these needs a false number. Each one only needs a number that doesn't say what it counts.

The bottom of the fraction

Per embryo transfer counts only the couples who got as far as a transfer. Per cycle started counts everyone who began, including cycles that stopped before a transfer. The same clinic can show two very different numbers.

ASK
Per cycle started, or per transfer?

Pregnancy is not a baby

A positive test, a heartbeat on a scan and a baby born are three different results. Only the last one is what you came for.

ASK
Live births, or pregnancies?

Age is mixed in

Age changes the chance more than anything a clinic does. A clinic-wide rate hides the band you are in.

ASK
What is it for my age band?

Donor eggs are mixed in

Donor eggs come from young women, so donor cycles carry a higher chance. The UK regulator, the HFEA, warns that clinics doing more donor treatment can show an inflated rate.

ASK
Are donor egg cycles counted separately?

Who was left out, and when

A good year from a small number of cycles, or a rate that leaves out cancelled cycles and couples who were turned away, looks better than it is.

ASK
Which years, how many cycles, and who was excluded?

WHAT WE WILL PUBLISH

Our results, counted the hard way.

This is the method, fixed before we see the numbers. We will publish whatever it shows, including where it is lower than couples hope. First table: [CONFIRM: date].

01

Live births per cycle started, not pregnancies and not per transfer

02

By the woman's age: under 35, 35 to 37, 38 to 40, 41 to 42, over 42

03

The period covered, named in years

04

The number of cycles in every age band

05

Every exclusion, stated with its reason

06

Donor egg cycles reported separately

07

Updated once a year, on a fixed date [CONFIRM: date]

7 questions to ask any clinic about its success rate.

If a clinic quotes you a success rate, ask these 7 questions and ask for the answers in writing. A figure that cannot answer them is not information.

1

Is that live births, or pregnancies?

Live births.

2

Is it per cycle started, per egg collection, or per embryo transfer?

Per cycle started, so every couple who began is counted.

3

What is the figure for my age band?

Five bands: under 35, 35 to 37, 38 to 40, 41 to 42, over 42.

4

Which years does it cover, and how many cycles is it based on?

The period and the cycle count are printed next to every figure.

5

Are donor egg cycles included in that number?

No. Donor egg cycles are reported on their own.

6

Which cycles or couples were left out, and why?

Every exclusion is listed with its reason.

7

What would my own chance be, with my age and my tests?

We go through it at your first consultation, including when treatment is unlikely to help.

What decides your chances.

These four things matter far more than which clinic's rate is higher. At your first consultation we go through each one for you.

The woman's age

The biggest single factor. As age rises, fewer eggs remain and more of them carry chromosome errors, so each cycle has a lower chance and more cycles may be needed.

IVF at Jananam

Egg reserve

AMH and a follicle count estimate how many eggs are left and how the ovaries will respond. They measure quantity, not quality.

What AMH tells you

Sperm

Count, movement and shape decide whether IUI can work or ICSI is needed. Even when no sperm are seen, a small procedure can sometimes find them.

TESA and PESA

The diagnosis

Blocked tubes, endometriosis, the womb, repeated losses or no cause found at all: each one changes which treatment fits, and what it can do.

Male infertility

WHAT WE OFFER INSTEAD, FOR NOW

Your own chances, not a clinic's average.

At your first consultation we go through your age, your diagnosis, your egg reserve, your partner's semen analysis and anything already tried. Then we set out what is realistic for someone in your position, including when we think the honest answer is that treatment is unlikely to help.

In their words, not ours.

What is the IVF success rate in Chennai?

There is no single IVF success rate for Chennai, because each clinic counts differently and the chance of a baby depends mostly on the woman's age, egg reserve, sperm and diagnosis. Compare clinics only on live births per cycle started, in your age band, with the cycle count shown.

What is Jananam's IVF success rate?

Jananam does not publish a headline IVF success rate yet. When it does, it will be live births per cycle started by age band, with cycle counts, exclusions and donor cycles shown separately. Until then, the doctor goes through your own chances at your first consultation.

What is the success rate of TESA with IVF?

The chance with TESA and ICSI depends first on whether sperm are found, then on the woman's age and egg reserve, so one TESA success rate would mislead. We tell you plainly, after the tests, whether retrieval is likely to find sperm and what that would mean for you.

What is the IUI success rate by age?

The chance with IUI falls as the woman's age rises, which is why Dr Vani sets the number of IUI cycles by age before you start: fewer from 35, and IVF sooner if egg reserve is low.

What does live birth per cycle started mean?

Live birth per cycle started means the share of all IVF cycles begun that ended in a baby born, counting cycles that stopped before egg collection or transfer. It is the hardest way to count and the closest to what a couple actually experiences.

Is a clinic with a higher success rate a better clinic?

Not necessarily: a higher rate often reflects younger patients, more donor egg cycles or more couples turned away, not better care. Ask the 7 questions on this page before comparing any two numbers.

Why don't most IVF clinics in India publish full results?

Publishing results properly takes years of careful records, and how clinics may talk about results is governed by the ART (Regulation) Act 2021. We would rather publish late and complete than early and flattering. [CONFIRM: legal wording]

When will Jananam publish its results?

Jananam will publish its first results table on [CONFIRM: date], after legal review, and update it once a year on a fixed date.
